Stefan Andriën

Twenty years in infrastructure and telecom. In a global corporate and in a start-up. Boardroom and building site.

I solve complex problems, fill a vacant management seat, or run a part of a business through a change.

What I do

  • Consulting — Short and clearly scoped. I help solve one complex problem. A valuation with a model behind it, an M&A case, or a team that needs building.
  • Interim — I take a vacant management position and run it for as long as it takes to fill it properly. Director, SVP, COO.
  • Transition — I run a part of the business through a change and hand it back when it is stable: an owner change, an integration, a restructuring, or the step across the border into the Netherlands or Germany.

Where it comes from

My basis is finance, strategy and technology, and I have always worked where the three meet. Twenty years in infrastructure and telecom: Vodafone in the Netherlands, in London and in Germany, then a company of my own.

I have led teams from fifteen to eighty people and worked with the people above them: country boards, CFOs and CEOs, investors, public partners. Most of the work was the complex kind: restructurings, the set-up of new business units, M&A from screening to transaction. I held P&L responsibility.

For the last two years I set up a fibre-cabling company and scaled it to sixty people and six million euros of revenue. When the market turned, I wound it down in a structured way.

Twenty years of building and transforming teams. That is what I bring to an empty seat, a transition, or a deal.

What I take on

Consulting → the deal

“We're buying a network and we don't trust the plan.”

M&A support: buy-side commercial and technical due diligence on a network or a construction company, and a valuation model you can defend in the investment committee.

Interim → the seat

“The chair is empty and the mission continues.”

A director, SVP or COO position that has to be filled now and filled permanently later. I take the seat for the time in between: I run the unit, take the decisions that cannot wait, and prepare the handover to whoever comes next.

Transition → the ground

“The project runs across several parties and nobody is on site.”

An owner abroad, a build across the border, a joint venture, an integration after a deal. I am the person on the ground. I report in the owner's language, I know the German and the Dutch side of the table, and I keep the parties delivering until the structure holds on its own.

Off the clock

I was born in the “Dutch mountains” and now live in Düsseldorf. I run, I play badminton and occasionally padel. I enjoy board games and Lego. I love good food and have a weakness for tiramisu. I am still perfecting my home-made French fries. Happily married.
